Regions and cities: drilling into your geography
Your dashboard has always told you which countries your visitors come from. Now you can go two levels deeper — from a country, into its regions (states, provinces, counties), and from a region into its cities. It is the same “click to go deeper” idea you already use elsewhere, applied to your map.
This is being rolled out gradually, so it may not be switched on for your account yet. It only appears when you are signed in — it never shows on a public or shared dashboard.
Where to find it
Open your site’s Geo report. Above the familiar Cities panel you will now see a Regions panel, ranked like every other breakdown. From there:
- Start at Top Countries — your countries, ranked by traffic.
- Click a country to see its regions — for the United States that’s states, for the UK it’s nations and counties, and so on.
- Click a region to see its cities.
Region names are shown in plain English (for example US-WA is displayed as Washington). If we don’t
have a friendly name for a particular region code, we show the raw code rather than guess.
You need Anonymous visitors (Mode B) for this
Region and city detail is only available on sites set to Mode B (Anonymous visitors). It is not a bug, and it is not “no data” — it is a deliberate privacy choice.
In Mode A (Totals only), Voris never collects region or city, so the panels don’t show an empty list or a fake zero. Instead they show a short note:
Region detail needs the Anonymous visitors setting, so we stop at country level rather than guess.
If you want region- and city-level geography, switch the site to Mode B under Settings → Privacy & data. Read Privacy modes explained first so you know what Mode B does and how it protects your visitors. Country-level geography keeps working in every mode.
Good to know
- Regions belong to their country. The same region code can exist in two different countries (a
WAin the US is Washington; aWAin Australia is Western Australia). Voris keeps them apart, so a region always sits under the right country — you’ll only ever see a region’s cities within the country you drilled from. - It respects your period selector and filters. The regions and cities you see are for the time range you’ve chosen, and reflect any filters you have active.
